For years, fans have asked for a sequel to the beloved 80’s movie, ‘The Goonies.’ While plenty of rumors have swirled about potential projects, nothing has come to fruition, leaving ‘Goonies’ fans with only the original film to watch. However, the creator of ‘The Goldbergs’ recently revealed he has written a script for ‘The Goonies 2,’ and claims to have set up a pitch meeting before quarantine started.

Adam F. Goldberg has a clear obsession with the 1980’s; often incorporating pop culture themes from the decade into the plot of his ABC series set in the 1980’s, ‘The Goldbergs.’ Now, he has revealed he has been working on a script for a ‘Goonies’ sequel, and showed off some concept art for the project.

“For the last 9 years I’ve been secretly writing PART 2 for fun. It’s my masterpiece. I even had a big meeting scheduled with Richard Donner… canceled 'cause of the lockdown! THE GOONIES 2 WILL happen when life resumes,” Goldberg said in his tweet. While nothing has been confirmed, it seems ‘Goonies’ fans are closer than ever to getting a sequel.
