iPhone Users Can Now Stake Their Claim In Apple’s $500 Million Settlement

Apple Will Pay $25 For Each Affected Device

July 15, 2020

For years, iPhone users preached the theory that Apple was slowing down old devices to entice them to buy newer models. After that theory was proven true a few years back, many felt vindicated and Apple eventually settled a class action lawsuit. Now, there is a website where those affected can claim their stake in the $500 million slowdown settlement.

Those hoping to get some extra money from Apple can visit www.smartphoneperformancesettlement.com apply for their piece of the settlement. To meet the criteria, IPhone users must have owned either an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and/or an iPhone SE that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later before December 21st, 2017, or an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21st, 2017.

As part of the settlement, Apple will “provide a cash payment of approximately $25 per eligible device,” per the agreement of their settlement. While that doesn’t quite match the price of a new iPhone, at least it’s something for dealing with an aging phone battery. Hopefully now iPhones will last a little bit longer.
