Nirvana Members, Courtney Love To Appear In Court For Nirvana L.L.C Vs. Marc Jacobs Lawsuit

The Lawsuit Is Over Marc Jacobs’ Use Of Nirvana’s “Happy Face” Logo

May 15, 2019

Members of Nirvana, along with Courtney Love, and her daughter with Kurt Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain, will soon be reuniting, but not for the reason you may think. The group has been called to court as witnesses in the Marc Jacobs vs Nirvana, L.L.C case.

Back in December, Nirvana L.L.C sued designer Mac Jacobs over the use of Nirvana’s famous “happy face” logo in his collection without the bands permission. Jacobs responded in March by denying the claims, and asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

Now, a group that includes Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic will be called as witnesses for this case. According to the court documents, Nirvana L.L.C believes they are owed over $1 million in damages, while Marc Jacobs is claiming both Love and Cobain knew about the use of the logo.

The image used is very similar to that used by Nirvana. The smiley face with squiggly lines is the same, with the only difference being the “X” over the eyes being replaced by an “M” and a “J.” While this lawsuit is unfortunate at least it’s an excuse for one of the greatest bands of all time to have a mini reunion.
