Los Angeles Police Confiscate $700K Worth Of Counterfeit Cosmetics Containing Fecal Matter

April 16, 2018

Recently the Los Angeles police confiscated counterfeit cosmetics that tested positive for bacteria and animal waste.

Roughly $700,000 worth of bootleg makeup products were taken after the department raided 21 locations in Santee Alley, a known fashion district in Los Angeles.  "Those feces will just basically somehow get mixed into the product they're manufacturing in their garage or in their bathroom -- wherever they're manufacturing this stuff," Detective Rick Ishitani said.

Police were tipped off by companies after receiving multiple complaints from consumers saying their products had given them rashes and bumps. And everyone that called in had one thing in common with each other, their products were purchased in the Los Angeles fashion district.  Product packaging looked real but their prices were much too low.

"If you're getting something that's 50% off, 75% off, it tells you that it's bad," Ishitani said.
