Tarrant County DA's Office Warns Of Coronavirus-Related Scam

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Scammers are using the coronavirus crisis to get their hands on your hard-earned money.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office has put out a video onto YouTube warning people that scammers are taking advantage of the ongoing outbreak.

One scam involves sending spam emails inviting users to click on a phony website promising a coronavirus test, access to a cure, or asking for donations to a charity.

Scammers are also making phone calls claiming that due to a so-called coronavirus response act, people can get a free testing kit for their home -- in actuality, neither exist.

Clicking a link or pressing "1" on the phone will give the scammers access to your financial information.

The D-A's office urges you to be very suspicious of anyone selling anything that claims to prevent, treat, diagnose or cure COVID-19.
